Chapter Seven

Scarlett awoke to find late afternoon sunlight streaming in the windows, spilling over the bed and highlighting Lucas’s sleeping form. He slept sprawled on his stomach, having kicked off the covers as he slept. Scarlett’s gaze was drawn to the smooth curve of his bare ass, the dip that led up to the heavy muscles in his back and shoulders. A little shiver ran through her body as she admired him, shifting a little bit to give herself a better view of his face.

His face looked different in sleep, lacking his usual expression of intensity. The smooth, broad planes of his face were relaxed; for a man who didn’t find many reasons to laugh, his sleeping satisfaction was a surprisingly good look.

Scarlett stretched, releasing a deep sigh. Her whole body was sore in the most pleasing way; Lucas had taken her twice more in the early hours of the morning, touching her and tasting her until every last drop of pleasure was wrung from her tired body.

She rolled to peer over the bed, finding Tesla belly down next to the nightstand. The poor thing had been worn out by all the excitement in the last couple of days. When Tesla heard her move he opened his eyes and peered up at her, wagging his little stub of a tail. She knew he probably needed to go outside, but he just gave a patient sigh and closed his eyes again.

Scarlett smiled, thinking of Lucas’s surprise at Tesla’s mellow attitude. Most dogs cowered before any werewolf, much less a big bad alpha like Lucas, but Tesla didn’t mind. Tesla loved Scarlett, and Scarlett treated Lucas with trust and affection. Ergo, Tesla was happy as a clam. It didn’t hurt that Lucas had made Tesla an extra t-bone and fed him little bits every time he went into the kitchen.

A sound pulled her from her thoughts, and Tesla perked up, climbing to his feet to move to the door. Scarlett tensed when she heard footsteps in the hallway. A door slammed, close by. More footsteps, and muffled voices.

When Scarlett looked back to Lucas, his eyes were open.

“Sounds like someone else is making moves,” she said with a shrug.

Lucas sat up. His powerful shoulders flexing as he rolled his neck and stretched, a mirror of her movements just a minute before. He stared at the door for another long moment before turning his stormy gaze to Scarlett.

“Ben and Aurelia,” he said, easing out of bed. He snagged Scarlett’s hand, kissing her knuckles before turning and padding toward the closet. “Gotta get dressed. I need to talk to them.”

Scarlett bit her lip, watching his perfect ass ripple before he disappeared into the closet. She realized that she had no idea what she was supposed to do now. She’d only been at the Compound for two days, she and Lucas were just getting settled in together, and she had no idea if anyone else even knew she was in the house.

“Will you take Tesla outside when you go downstairs?” she called out, flopping back onto the bed.
